I had a peroneal nerve injury in my Right Leg/Foot as a result a hip replacement in March, 2019. This resulted in the “drop foot” condition such that when I walked, I could not dorsiflex or more easily understood, raise my toes on my Right Foot when it swung forward. This would result in stubbing my toes while walking and increased the risk and actually caused me to fall a couple of times.
Long story made short I went thru 18 months of 3X per week physical therapy wearing that cumbersome carbon fiber ankle-foot orthotic. It took me 18 months to be able to walk wearing that orthotic. I had to wear it or I would stub my toe and fall. I showed my therapist the Saebo Step website and surprisingly she had never heard of it but immediately became intrigued by it and said if you get it and it doesn’t work for you, you had 30 days to return it. She urged me to get it and it was like magic, and I’m not one who believes in magic being a scientist.
Now when I wear it, I can do just about everything. I don’t wear he AFO anymore. I’m even back to golfing. Today I snowblowed 36 inches of snow wearing it on my LL Bean boots. It’s not magic it is good engineering.
The one thing I wish would happen is that the product be more widely known to Physical Therapists. None of the ones I met knew anything about it. How can that be??? Saebo should get it’s field reps out to therapy sites and make the therapists know about it and help so many people.
The issue may be cost. The Saebo Step is under $150.00. The carbon fiber AFO is $1000. If you manufactured braces which would you want to be selling?

The SaeboStep foot support devices have been a godsend. They are easy to put on, comfortable to wear, and extremely effective in preventing drop foot. I love the fact that they are so easily adjustable- I can loosen them when sitting or tighten them if walking with just a turn of a knob. They have restored a level of independence that I was beginning to lose hope of regaining. Awesome concept, excellent execution.

The Saebo foot drop brace is a genius design. I wore an off the shelf AFO brace for about a year after spine surgery and then a noodle brace for the following two years. The strut on the noodle broke and instead of replacing this over $1,000 brace, I found and decided to try the SaeboStep. I love it. I can now finally wear a much wider selection of shoes and can wear any pants of my choosing. The noodle brace limited what shoes and pants I could wear. Also, I feel my gait is closer to normal with the SaeboStep and it allows me to use more of my muscles involved with dorsiflexion and plantarflexion. I feel a better chance of retraining my muscles to dorsiflex again. Thank you for this awesome design. It truly has improved the quality of my life to a degree.
