Two years ago I experienced a stroke that resulted in left-sided weakness and loss of all function and sensitivity in my left hand. The lack of sensitivity in my hand was so extreme that at one point, when I was pulling something out of the oven, I started to smell burning flesh. I looked down and saw that my hand was laying on the coils of the oven without my awareness. The result of this was a second-degree burn. I know from the research that sensitivity is a precursor to function, so I am hopeful that I will continue to see improvement in my ability to use my hand over time.
